Gyrotope

Installation. 2016
Light, sound, time, 28 columns.

Presented at Nuit Blanche 2021 (Paris, FR), by Grand Paris Express (Paris, FR, 2016), at EU Parliament (Brussels, BE, 2016).

Gyrotope is a large circle of columns that describes a sculptural volume unfolding over time.

It uses ephemeral and intangible materials, light and sound, to formalise an experience based on motion perception. It develops spatially the principles of a film: a number of discrete parts experienced in succession, become a unique, continuous element.

Gyrotope functions as a perimeter that can be traversed. The work creates a malleable experience of scale: it shifts between object and environment depending on the observer’s position inside, outside, or at the boundary of the installation.

Original commission for the cultural programme of the Grand Paris Express.
